In some instances, at some levels of competition, it is sporting at the end of the day to suggest there were no losers. Everyone was a winner. At the conclusion of the 54-hole Metropolitan Open Championship at Country Club of St. Albans on Saturday, for the second time in the tournament's three-year history, that sentiment was both figuratively and literally correct. Truly, everyone was a winner.

Jeff Escott made 30 foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole at Kokopelli GC in Marion, IL, to capture his first professional victory. After firing two rounds of 68, he was matched against Mark Faulkner of Lake of Egypt CC in the playoff. Both players made par on the 1st hole, but when Escott sank his birdie putt on the second playoff hole, it proved to be too much for Faulkner.

Coming off last week's impressive performance by Kenny Perry at Memorial, I started to speculate about the potential pairings Captain Azinger should be considering for the September Ryder Cup matches. Jack Nicklaus was thinking about that the other day at the Memorial when he noted that any team that featured Woods and Phil Mickelson should be able to hold its own without having to hold sing alongs around the campfire.

Some days it pays to roll out of bed in the morning. Mike Suhre had one of those at the Publinx Open on Sunday.



Suhre shot a 5-under-par 65 to win the professional division at the 49th playing of the event at Forest Park.

The Men's golf team at Mo-St. Louis enters the second and final round of the Spring Regional at Cherry Blossum Golf Course in a tie for 7th place out of 21 Division II programs.
