Las Vegas Odds for Accenture Match Play Championship
Updated: Tue 2/16/2010 5:23 pm

February 16, 2010--Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com Founder Jeff Sherman has released the PGA Tour golf betting odds for the WGC--Accenture Match Play Championship, and new world number two-ranked golfer Steve Stricker is the favorite to win with Geoff Ogilvy and Rory McIlroy, all at 15/1. But Sherman says there could be a bit more value on the underdogs in a match play tournament. Las Vegas is not only a great golf destination but is the home of the best golf betting information.

There is much more randomness to match play with one day matches as opposed to wagering on four-day stroke play events," says Sherman, who is also the Assistant Director of the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook. "Even though the match play prices are made to equate wagering, the underdog is much more live in match play that stroke play because there is little room for error in match play versus one poor round that can be made up for during four days of stroke play." Other notable golfers and betting odds are Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Paul Casey (20/1), and Henrik Stenson, Anthony Kim and Padraig Harrington at 25/1.

The golfers also notice a bit of a difference when playing in a match play format, and the thought process changes somewhat.  McIlroy, who had a good run in the Accenture last year, is ready to go. "(Last year) was great," said McIlroy in a pre-event press conference. "This was my first tournament in the States as a pro last year. And I played pretty well. I got through three rounds and got beatten by the eventual winner, Geoff (Ogilvy). It was great. I felt as if I played well last year. It's a course that -- it's a good match play course, you have to really think about your second shots into these slopey greens, and you have to really think about where you're putting the ball. I played a practice round today and the course is playing really well again. The greens are a little firmer than what they were last year, which is going to make it a little tricky. But I think it's a really good course that everyone enjoys. This format is -- it's a bit different than what we usually play. It's nice to get away from stroke play for a little bit."

A few of the individual matchups include Stricker (-280) vs. Ross McGowan (+240), Ryo Ishikawa (+105) vs. Michael Sim (-125), and Harrington (-200) vs. Jeev Milkha Singh (+175).
