Woods in trouble? It's not often we talk about Tiger Woods in a final pairing on Sunday to not turn the page and reflect on his victory and pursuit of another record. But such is the case this week as Tiger failed to deliver after being provided an open door on Sunday at the TPC of Sawgrass.
Henrik Stenson took full advantage, firing a 6-under par 66 leaving everyone in his wake. His play was near flawless, while at the same time the final pairing of Cejka and Woods were nothing but flawed most of the day. Stenson becomes only the 3rd European player to win The Players and the second in as many years.
So what is wrong with Woods? It appeared as though Sunday was shaping up perfectly for another dramatic Tiger Woods run at glory. Starting the day five shots back, Woods was paired with a player who had never won an event of this magnitude. Sure he was tied with a slew of players at 6 under par, but he was in the final group and we all know what that means. Usually it means, Tiger wins. But Tiger has yet to return to form after returning from an extended layoff and reconstructive knee surgery.
It's hardly fair however to ridicule the greatest player in the world. It goes to show just how difficult this game is and how competitive the PGA Tour has become. At the same time, Tiger is clearly not firing on all cylinders and yet we still continue to account for him on Sunday's in the games biggest tournaments. Remember The Masters only a few weeks ago and that final round with Phil the thrill? And here he was again, noticeably struggling to find his timing but the field came back to him and politely allowed Tiger to sleep in late on Sunday as he prepared for another final pairing.

University of Illinois set to tee it up on Thursday in pursuit of National Championship - As it is in the world of college golf, we've reached that point in the season when a bad round can end a season. Four rounds of golf stand between the University of Illinois and a spot in the National Championship. Scott Langley and his teammates at Illinois are young, but they've been here before. Just last season the Fighting Illini advanced to the National Championship and experienced the pinnacle of college golf. This time around, it's not going to be enough to just qualify for the big dance. This year the expectations are much higher. But just as we've seen in the NCAA Basketball Tournament, tournament favorites can exit stage left in the round of 32 or round of 16 and never realize their potential.
