Mark Faulkner holed a birdie putt on the 18th green at Gateway National in the last match of the day to give The GAteay PGA a 4 to 3 lead through the Four-Ball action in the annual matches pitting the best from the Gateway Section against their amateur counterparts.
On The Back Nine Radio show this past Saturday, Adam Frillman and I took a shot at predicting the Four-Ball matches. I have to admit, we nailed the outcome with both predicting the Gateway Section would carry a 4 to 3 lead into Monday's Foursomes and Singles action. What can I say, we know our golf.
O.K., I should also admit that while I nailed the 4 to 3 total score, I absolutely bombed on the individual matches. Darren Lundgren and Ted Moloney destroyed Brian Fogt and Kevin Triefenbach. I must have listened to Adam too much when he was bragging on Triefenbach.
I didn't give Scott Edwards and Robert Trittler a chance against the host professional, Ed Schwent and John Hayes of Forest Hills Country Club but they won 1 up. David Lucks and Scott Thomas couldn't keep the trend of the Senior Amateurs having the edge as they were defeated by Larry Emery and Steve Lotz. Yep, I'm 0 for 3 so far.
The big upset of the afternoon on Saturday had to be Paul Neeman and David Johnson defeating Bob Gaus and Nash Haxel, 1up. The upset I was expecting to see didn't take place as two of the top Gateway PGA players, Mike Suhre and Brett Moomey held serve against Chad Niezing and John Anderson. That's right, I'm now 0 for 5.
I missed again as Jim Holtgrieve and Tom Barry couldn't hold off JC Anderson and Mike Tucker. The Gateway PGA team defeated the 2011 Walker Cup Captain and Toz, 2 & 1.
And finally, in the final match of the day, it took a clutch putt by Mark Faulkner for me to finally predict one match correctly. The clutch putt by Faulkner gave the Gateway Section a 1up win and 1 point lead in the match heading into Monday's action.
So here we go again, it can't get any worse.

Needing a half point to secure a win for the Section with three matches remaining on the golf course, I have the Amateurs forcing the attention to the last match where Chad Niezing and Brett Moomey will take center stage. Unfortunately for the Amateurs, Moomey will be too much to handle and the Section will prevail in the 2010 Cup Matches after a year of glory for the Amateurs.
