Any normal year and I'd be in Columbia, MO this weekend competing in the Phil Cotton Memorial Amateur Golf Tournament at A.L Gustin Golf Course. While I'm going to miss seeing guys like Richard Poe and Jim Knoesel as they host another great tournament I'm sure, I wouldn't have traded this for the world.
A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of welcoming Tom Watson to our radio show on 101.1 ESPN. This week however could have represented our best show ever. A special thanks goes out to Dave Barnett, my regular co host on the show, for helping to set up this dream lineup.
Paul Azinger, 2008 Captain of the United States Ryder Cup team and winner of the 1993 PGA Championship; Scott Langley, who just captured the 2010 NCAA Championship; Michael Whan, LPGA Commissioner; and Jim Grundberg of Seemore Putters to talk about Zach Johnson and his amazing weekend at Colonial last week. Can I just say - life is good!
If you haven't purchased the book, "Cracking the Code", it's well worth the time. It takes just about 90 minutes to read and offers a unique perspective into the week that redefined how the United States will forever approach the Ryder Cup Matches. Zinger was everything I expected and then some, offering candid insight into what his life has been like since capturing the cup and the two years leading up to that special week in Louisville, KY.
Can we just agree, Scott Langley is really good and on his way to being great? The University of Illinois Junior just wins and continues to win and win and win. He's enjoyed a magical couple of weeks including medalist honors at US Open Local Qualifying at WingHaven Country Club, winning the Metropolitan Amateur Match Play Championship at Old Warson Country Club and now a victory at the NCAA Championship. Wow! Langley joins Tiger Woods as NCAA Champions at The Honors Course; not bad company I would have to say.
If you aren't familiar with SeeMore putters, it's time you visit your local golf store or ask your PGA Professional for a peak at what I believe to be the best putter on the market. Zach Johnson also agrees. It's been a SeeMore putter that Zach has used for years in becoming one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, case in point last weekend when he caught fire during the final round en route to winning the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
For weeks we've heard from LPGA Professionals and to a tee, each has commended Michael Whan for the work he's done as LPGA Commissioner during his first six months. We had the pleasure of visiting with Michael Whan this morning on The Back Nine and what a class act this guy is. The LPGA Tour is definitely headed in the right direction with the right person at the helm. If you have time next week, be sure to make the drive over to Springfield, IL and enjoy 96 of the top 100 LPGA Professionals on display at Panther Creek Country Club.
