Rory McIlroy has enjoyed a great year by anyone's standards. The 23-year old owns two major championships, the second coming at this year's PGA Championship. His four victories in 2012 led the PGA Tour. Arguably most impressive was the way he dismantled some of the strongest fields in golf, winning a major championship and then two of the four Fed Ex Cup events.

As Davis reflects on the most impressive comeback in Ryder Cup history, he'll be thinking about how close his United States team was to winning. In reality, Team USA was only short 1/2 point. Tiger Woods was standing in the middle of the fairway on 18, 1up over Molinari when Kaymer clinched the cup for Europe against Stricker. I'm confident Tiger would have finished off Molinari had his point meant winning the Cup for the United States.

Leading up to the Ryder Cup Captain Love and Olazabal made very important decisions with their respective Captains selections. Immediately after the teams were decided, their focus likely turned towards pairings. The work preparing for the team room setup, inspirational speakers and special guests for the week was hopefully completed. It was time to bunker down with their assistant captains, spend time with the players during practice rounds and get one last pulse on the 12 players competing inside the ropes.

In all of Davis Love III's preparation for captaining this Ryder Cup team, he never thought about the lead he was hoping to have heading into Sunday Singles. He truly felt his team was so talented that if they focused on winning each session the scoreboard would take care of itself. While Love's squad hasn't delivered on winning every session, the success enjoyed in the middle two were enough to well position this American team to recapture the Cup.
