Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Missouri, was recently honored in the Fall 2008 issue of Golf Digest Index. In the issue, Golf Digest ranked the top 50 clubs in the United States with the best players based on Handicap Index and National accomplishments. Fox Run was rated 35th in the country because of their accomplished players such as Buddy Allen, Jim Holtgrieve, Ted Moloney, Darren Lundgren, Matt Hines, Drew Pranger and Zach Pranger.
This collection of players is routinely in contention and in the winner's circle throughout the state of Missouri. In 2008, Fox Run members accounted for multiple wins in the state with Buddy Allen winning the Bob Cochran, Mid Amateur Championship and Darren Lundgren winning four times in 2008 (Normandie Amateur, East Side Amateur, Missouri Stroke Play and Jim Jackson Invitational). In addition, Ted Moloney qualified for and advanced to Match Play in the U.S.G.A. Mid-Amateur Championship at Milwaukee Country Club.
Zach Pranger became only the fourth player in Missouri State High School history to win the Individual State Title as a sophomore, joinng Payne Stewart, John Daly and Tom Watson on that list.
And then there is Jim Holtgrieve, once the most dominating amateur golfer in Missouri also qualifying for numerous National Championships in the 70's and 80's. His most notable playing accomplishment came in 1981 when Holtgrieve won the inaugural U.S.G.A. Mid-Amateur Championship hosted at St. Louis' Bellerive Country Club. In 2008, Holtgrieve received another immense honor when he was named the captain for the 2011 Walker Cup Team.
"When we all get together to play it is like playing in a tournament," commented Buddy Allen on the Back Nine Radio show.
