Jason Schulte, 20 of Kansas City, and Kyle Smell, 19 of Overland Park won the 2008 Heart of America Four-Ball 1 up over Brad Boan and Zac Potter. It was the Cats versus the Shockers in the all college player final. Schulte and Smell are both team mates at K-State have been playing the championship, finished runner-up in 2006, but never had won the championship.

The WGA has been a leader in American golf since 1899 when representatives of 11 Chicago-area golf clubs signed the original charter to conduct golf championships and coordinate tournament events at member clubs. Today, the WGA annually sponsors the BMW Championship, the Western Amateur, and the Western Junior. Each tournament ranks as one of the premier championships in its class. All proceeds from the BMW Championship benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation.
