On Your MARKS-Get Set-Go!
The third and fourth round of the 2010 Stroke Play Championship saw a lot of action. Third round play got underway on the West Course at Norwood Hills Country Club. The final 53 players that made the cut were to play the West course in the morning and the East in the afternoon for their fourth and final round.
With John Anderson- St. Louis, MO leading after the first two rounds there were many players behind him hungry for the victory. The third round soon saw a change of lead. Will Harrold- Columbia, MO posted a low score of 67 and Skip Berkmeyer- St. Louis, MO came in with a 68. But it was Ryan Marks- Warrensburg, MO that took the lead after the third round. His consistency of three solid rounds – 66, 70, 70 put him in the lead by one stroke ahead of Berkmeyer.
As the final round went on, the lead was held by Marks for the majority of the round until he faced the 17th hole. He was clear ahead of Berkmeyer by four strokes playing hole number 17 on the East course. But unfortunately Marks was faced with some trouble. Berkmeyer who was in the group ahead of Marks birdied the 18th hole to finish the tournament four-under-par. While Marks struggled to make a double bogey on 17 to decrease his lead to just one stroke, he knew that he had to par 18 to avoid a play off with Berkmeyer. Nonetheless Marks beat the nerves and raced to finish five-under-par for the championship making him the new 2010 Stroke Play Champion.
