Leaders Unable to Hold onto Lead
Blue Springs, MO- The final group consisted of Robert Trittler, Steve Groom, and Scott Edwards. They each had to battle to the end to see who would pull out with the victory. Scott Edwards, St. Louis, MO, had a solid round with a 73, one over par. Edwards round was the best in the group. Edwards’ round had one eagle on the front nine, one of 2 for the whole day. Edwards pared hole 18 to capture the lead while his opponents made bogie, making Edwards the 2009 Senior Amateur Champion.
Gerald Siemons, Jefferson City, MO moved up the leader board while posting the best score of the day, 72 (even par) Siemons was in the second group. He was one of the players that bogied 18 eventuall putting him behind the leader by one.
Steve Groom who was tied for the lead after day one had the lead all day until his final two holes. Groom was able to get around the golf course grasping on the lead until he bogied his last two holes to hand the championship to Edwards. Groom ended in a tie for runner up with Gerald Siemons. Trittler who was also in the tie for the lead after day 1, got off to a rough start on day 2. Trittler shot 4 over on the front. He had lost the lead and would try to get it back. Trittler shot a solid back nine, even par to put his ending score at 76 and a tie for fourth place.
2008 Senior Amateur Champion, Scott Thomas had a better second round but not enough to catch the leaders.
While the wind was much calmer on Tuesday it was not enough to equal low scores. Even par being the low round of day 2. The greens were running fast seeming to make it hard for the competitors to hole putts.
Congratulations to all who competed!
