Annual Father-Son Tournament Expands Field and will allow Professionals to compete.
(Jefferson City, MO – September 18, 2008) Following three years of a sold out field and rave reviews about the event and its venue, the Missouri Golf Association is expanding the field for their annual Father Son Championship. Held at The Club at Porto Cima the last two years, MGA Executive Director and the Lodge of the Four Seasons struck a deal late last month to expand the event to a field of 140 teams up from 80 teams in the three previous years. To accommodate the expanded field, the event will be split over two courses, retaining Porto Cima and including the renovated Witches Cove. In addition, the MGA will allow Golf Professionals to compete in the event with their Father or Son in a new division for 2009. “Our waiting list for this event kept growing each year and it just made sense to expand the field and include two championship golf properties for our players to enjoy,” commented Executive Director, Scott Hovis.
July 27th and 28th are the dates for the 2009 Father / Son, with registration beginning in March of 2009. The event includes a practice round on July 26th followed by one round of golf on each of the two courses on the 27th and 28th. In addition the event hosts a nice banquet dinner at the Lodge of the Four Seasons with a keynote speaker. In 2008, Mizzou Tigers Broadcaster, Mike Kelly, addressed the group. There are a variety of flights for the players to compete in, including the Century Flight for Father/Son teams whose combined age is 100 or more.
The Missouri Golf Association will host their 4th Annual, Father / Son Championship as follows:
