This will be the third consecutive year the Missouri Golf Association will be conducting this long standing Championship. Ken Lanning founded this tournament as an opportunity for juniors from the ages 5 through 18 to play tournament golf long before there were statewide tournaments for juniors. The MGA was honored when asked to continue this great championship and in turn honor the man that started junior golf at the MGA. The goal is to provide a tournament environment fr the participants to test their abilities and to have fun at the same time. The proceeds from this great event go back to the Lanning Foundation for the furtherance of scholarships as administered by the Lanning Foundation.
The event is held annually at the Oak Meadow Country Club in Rolla, Missouri and once again it will be the host venue for this event. The golf course is set up to be playable for each age division and the set up allow a test of ability while providing a truly enjoyable time for each participant. The list of past champions and competitors reads like a “Who’s Who” in golf and holds some of the best memories for each competitor. Many future Missouri Amateur Champions cut their teeth in tournament play at this event and some have gone on to national prominence.
The tournament is a two day event includes, a golf clinic and exhibition by the clinic instructors. Many of the past champions who have gone onto become champions of other statewide events are the featured instructors who come back to pay tribute to Mr. Lanning and provide a testament to what he and this event has meant to them. |
