July 12, 2009 – Jefferson City, MO – Golf Channel’s, Rich Lerner, will headline the Missouri Golf Association’s Father-Son Championship July 26-28. Up to 140 two person Father-Son tandems will compete in the 36-hole event over two premier championship golf courses, The Club at Porto Cima and Witches Cove.
Lerner has been a mainstay at The Golf Channel for the past nine years serving as anchor, reporter and essayist for Golf Central. He will host the tournament banquet on Monday, July 27th as the keynote speaker.
Since 2004, Lerner has provided play by play for the Champions Tour in addition to anchoring coverage of The Solheim Cup as well as the Tavistock Cup. He regularly reports from the PGA Tour and has covered all of golf’s major championships and the Ryder Cup matches, delivering coverage of player news conferences and providing distinctive essays for unique Golf Channel coverage.
“Rich provides a perspective on the game that participants in our Father-Son Championship will enjoy hearing,” said Missouri Golf Association Executive Director, Scott Hovis. “His access to some of the game’s most influential players and personalities has provided him life experiences most golfers dream about”.
On Golf Talk Live, Rich has interviewed some of golf’s greatest legends, including jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Greg Norman. His one-hour specials on The Golf Channel include Tiger Woods, Millennium Man; New York Stories and Courage on the Fairways. His documentary, Se Ri Pak, A Champion’s Journey earned Rich the prestigious Women’s Sports Foundation Journalism Award.
The Missouri Golf Association Father-Son Championship has quickly emerged as one of the Association’s premier events. The Field of 80 teams was expanded to 140 to accommodate the growing interest in the championship.
