Nurski, Kirschbaum Lead After 18 Holes - Roberts One Back

Founded in 1896, The Kansas City Country Club is the third oldest country club west of the mighty Mississippi river.  The A.W. Tillinghast design has played host to many of the regions top amateurs and professional golfers, including Kansas City's own, Tom Watson.  

This week the club that hosted the first Trans-Mississippi Amateur in addition to numerous Kansas Amateur and USGA Qualifiers is again welcoming many of the region's top golfers as host of the 2008 Missouri Mid-Amateur Championship.  Golfers from all over the state of Missouri and eastern Kansas are competing over 36 holes in the Missouri Golf Association's final major championship of the 2008 competitive schedule. 

Amidst a technology boom in an era when traditional championship golf courses are being classified as obsolete, Kansas City Country Club proved once again that age is beauty and beauty can be forever.  Not a single player broke par and only twelve players posted a sub 75 score.  Brad Nurski, coming off a solid performance at the USGA Mid-Amateur Championship shares the lead with Kansas City native David Kirschbaum at even par.  Harry Roberts of St. Joseph, MO dropped a slippery four foot putt on the 18th hole to finish one shot behind the pace and finds himself in the final pairing teeing off at 1:42pm on Wednesday, October 1st.

The leaderboard has a definite Kansas City flavor.  Brian Haskell, St. Joseph's, and Sam Allegri, Kansas City, will start the final 18 holes two shots back paired with Tim Holmes of Springfield, MO who also posted a 2 over 72.  Tyler Shelton of Fairway, KS posted 74 and is paired with Don Bliss (73) and Matt Hines (74) in the third to last group.
