The 91st playing of the Western Junior Championship was conducted at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Georgia last week.  Leading the 2008 Western Junior field were five highly regarded juniors: Cory Whitsett, Sean Dale, Luke Guthrie of Quincy, Illinois, Hyun Seok Lim and Chan Kim along with St. Louis' own and Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Scott Langley.  Guthrie will be joining Langley at the University of Illinois after winning the Illinois State Titles in 2006 and 2007.

The Western Junior was the first National Junior Championship to be conducted beginning back in 1914 and annually draws one of the strongest fields in Junior Golf.  Past Champions include Bobby Clampett in 1978 and Jim Furyk in 1987 and many former and current PGA Tour stars have played in the event, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Rocco Mediate and Jay Haas.

Langley fired rounds of 70, 66, 68 and 73 to finish at 277, in a tie for 5th, nine strokes back of Champion Cory Whitset who fired four rounds in the 60's to finish at 12 under par 268.  Guthrie had an impressive showing as well shooting 69, 70, 71 and 69 to finish in a tie for 7th at 1-under par 279.

The University of Illinois has got to be excited about the future of the Men's Golf Program with two stars in the making already contending on the national stage.
