One up and coming player, one young player who has already arrived and a virtual unknown qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship as a result of their top three finish at Aberdeen Golf Club Wednesday. 

St. Louisan Jeremy Franklin led after round one of the U.S. Amateur Public Links Qualifying and had many in the field wondering who is Jeremy Franklin?  After a second round 69, the answer to the question who is Jeremy Franklin is - 2008 USAPL Qualifying Medalist.  Franklin, a former Alabama-Birmingham golfer who has lived in St. Louis for the past five years, will be one of three plkayers from the area to advance tot he 83rd U.S. Amateur Public Links Chamnpionship, July 14-19 at Murphy Creek Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. 

University of Illinois standout, Scott Langley, posted the low round of day 2 with a sizzling 5 under 66.  Langley's second round 66 combined with his first round 1 over par 72 placed him in second place for the 36 hole qualifying punching his ticket to his first USGA national championship.  Edwardsville's Chris Brant (71-69-140) earned the third qualifying spot in dramatic fashion. 

After hitting his tee shot on the difficult par 4, 18th in the water, Brant hit his 3rd shot over the green.  Needing to get up and down for bogey to secure the third and final position, Brant calmly drained a 15 foot putt to edge UMSL's Tim Cochran by one shot.  Cochran earned the first alternate while two golfers tied at 142 - Hannibal's Brian Scott and Percy, Ill., golfer Zach Barlow. 

Franklin, Langley and Brant will all be competing in their first USGA national championships.  Langley has experience competing against many of the top national amateurs after a successful freshmen year at the University of Illinois.  Brant recently competed a successful high school career at Edwardsville and is set to join the Iowa Hawkeye program in the fall.
