The greens at Lawrence Country Club were the topic of conversation today for the young men and women of the KC Junior Tour. The 6062 yard layout seemed benign enough to players upon arrival, but Lawrence held its own with its main defense - speed. Players from KC were not accustomed to the lightning fast greens and the scores reflected such.
Cody Bonebrake, who will attend Baker University this fall, seemed to handle the speedy greens just fine with his first place effort. Bonebrake would card a 3-over par 73 on his way to a two stroke victory. After nine consecutive pars on the front side, Bonebrake’s only falter was at the par-5 twelfth, where he would make a double-bogey seven. From there, Bonebrake would cruise in with a backside 38 to complete the round. Ashton Munholland took the top honors for the girls’ division with her 8-over par 78. Munholland played consistent golf with a pair of 4-over par 39s. Her 78 was good enough for a three stroke victory over fellow favorite Audrey Judd.
The final regular season event of the KC Junior Tour Varsity Division is Wednesday, July 21 at Adams Pointe Golf Club.
