Play to your Miss

Off the tee many people are trying to shape their shots according to the lay of the hole or just trying to hit them straight. The straight shot is the hardest to hit. But what I find when working with students is that they miss there shots in one direction more that the other. If you fade or slice the golf ball you should aim down the left side of the fairway giving you room for the ball to fade back to the middle of the fairway. Another trick is to tee the ball up on the right side of the tee, this giving you a perspective that the fairway is wider and you can fit your tee shot into the fairway easier.

If you ask a golf professional where they are aiming, you will tell you that they are aiming at something farther away than they can hit the ball with the club selected and may also tell you the shape of the shot they are planning on hitting. Visualization is a big part of golf. It helps the thought process and puts an image of a good shot in the forefront. You can actually talk yourself into hitting a good shot. Try it sometime.
