MAGA / Gateway PGA To Bring Back Cup Matches
The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association and Gateway PGA have joined efforts to resurrect a Ryder Cup style match between the top amateurs and top professionals of their respective associations.
The Matches were previously known as the Wilson Team Matches in the 1990's. The return of the matches will be contested at Norwood Hills Country Club on March 22nd and 23rd.
Sunday, March 22nd will feature Four-Ball matches beginning in the early afternoon. The teams will return on Monday to play Foursomes in the morning and square off in Individual matches in the afternoon. Each team will consist of 12 members; 8 regular division and 4 senior division players.
The Amateur team will be led by Player of the Year, Skip Berkmeyer. Other members of the team scheduled to compete include, Darren Lundgren, Tom Barry, Brian Kennedy, Andrew Pranger, Matt Hines, Ted Moloney and Scott Thomas. The Senior amateurs scheduled to participate include Darrel Huisinga, David Lucks, Jim Holtgrieve and Don Bliss.
The Professional side will feature arguably the area's top player in Bob Gaus. Gaus will be joined by former touring professional, JC Anderson, Brian Fogt, Mike Tucker, Gideon Smith, Steve Hausmann, Ryan Roy and Bobby Pavelonis. Senior professionals scheduled to participate include John Hayes, Scott Bess, Larry Emery and Steve Heckel. The professional team features thre players very familiar with Norwood Hills Country Club in Roy, Pavelonis and Emery.
