So, you want to hit the golf ball farther.  Can you buy 50 yards?  Rather than spend money on a new club to find out, why not invest on your most important asset…YOU.

We can only improve our game so much if we don’t have the strength and flexibility to improve our swing.  Conditioning the body gives our golf game a chance to improve.

When we’re not in good condition, our muscles are weak and we fall into bad habits with our swing. We lose energy toward the end of our game. What golfers want is body awareness to know where our body is in space and where our club is at the same time. To get that extra 50 yards, we want strength and flexibility, a steady swing and good balance.

How do we get what we want? Take action. Make a commitment to improve. Find a fitness coach to work with. Take advantage of the off-season! Plug fitness and conditioning routines into your old golf slots. Work on strengthening all muscles, especially golf specific muscles. Those include core, glutes, legs, ankles, upper body, wrists and forearms. Add cardiovascular exercise to get your heart rate up and build endurance. Add flexibility to move fluidly through your swing.

Lastly, add concentration and focus for a good swing and staying with the game. Add that “calmness” Kenny Perry talked about when he played so well at Ryder Cup.

Remember: All of this requires consistency over time so you’re ready for that winter golf get away or for the first game you play in 2009.

Don’t procrastinate! Start your program now, even as the fall golf days are waning. In fact, if you focus on fitness now, you’ll see improvement in your game even before you hang up your clubs for the season. Ask your golf pro to suggest specific areas to work on to improve your own personal game, then contact Barb at Optimal Lifestyles, Inc. for a plan of action.
