Illinois won its own Olympia Fields Country Club/University of Illinois by 11 strokes Sunday, shooting a final-round, 1-under 279 on the major championship venue to beat one of the best fields of the year.

The 2008 Hieronymus Cup Matches are set and an exciting weekend of golf featuring the state's top amateurs will take place Saturday and Sunday at Dalhousie Golf Club. Captain Jim Holtgrieve has assembled a strong East squad to tee it up against the defending champion team from the West led by Bruce Hollowell.

Founded in 1896, The Kansas City Country Club is the third oldest country club west of the mighty Mississippi river. The A.W. Tillinghast design has played host to many of the regions top amateurs and professional golfers, including Kansas City's own, Tom Watson.

To be a member of the PGA Tour in the US, players have to play a minimum of 15 events. The European Tour, by contrast, seeks a commitment to 11 tournaments, which is measly when considering that seven of those are made up of the four majors and three World Golf Championships (WGC) events, all of which, bar the Open Championship, are played in the US.

Over one hundred of Missouri's finest senior amateur golfers teed it up at Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis on Tuesday. While many enjoyed their first opportunity to play one of the state's finest venue's, one player in the field had a decisive home course advantage and used that advantage to tie for the first round lead. Mike Smith is the Assistant Caddie Master and Caddie at Old Warson and has been involved at the club for nearly 20 years.
