Every year, I look for a spot to take a group of guys for a long weekend getaway that focuses first and foremost on golf. For the past 8 years we have stayed in the Midwest and 2011 was no exception. A recommendation came from a member of our group to take a look at Hot Springs Village in Arkansas, the largest retirement community in the country. Before making a judgment, I quickly Googled the community, www.hsvpoa.organd Golf Digest’s State by State rankings http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-courses/arkansas. What I found was very encouraging, 3 of the top 10 rated golf courses in Arkansas are in Hot Springs Village.
Enough said, let’s do it.
Hot Springs Village is just an hour from Little Rock Airport (LIT) and an easy drive at that. It is a gated community, but not in the traditional sense. Sure you have to check in with the gate attendant, but once you enter the property, it is not like every other gated or golf community you have seen. It is expanse, nothing but trees for miles and miles of immaculate roads. Each neighborhood of homes is set back from the main road and borders a golf course, lake or the trees. You can find any level of property that you want, from modest 2 & 3 bedroom homes to million dollar homes up on the bluff. We played 4 of the 9 courses in the village (Ponce De Leon, Magellan, Balboa & Granada) and thoroughly enjoyed the golf experience.
