By JARED LANKFORD Monett senior Jacob Fair signed a national letter of
intent to play golf at the University of Missouri in Columbia on Friday.
“It feels good, and it’s all still hard to believe,” said Fair. “I started being
recruited a year ago, and the time really flew by. In the end, Mizzou was the
best fit for me.” Fair has enjoyed great success over the last 12 months.
He is ranked 15th in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Class of 2012
and is the 25th-ranked golfer in the nation. Fair finished second in the
Missouri Class 3 state tournament last year. He has also collected second place
finishes in the Lockton Kansas City Junior, AJGA Huntsville Junior and the AJGA
Junior at Quad Cities. He was also named to the 2001 HP Scholastic Junior
All-American team and Rolex Junior All-American second team. “I am very
excited for Jacob,” said Monett golf coach Derek Uhl. “It was his goal to play
collegiate golf, and he achieved it. Jacob handles himself well on and off the
course. I firmly believe his best golf is ahead of him.” The Tigers are
excited to add a player of Fair’s caliber to their team. “We recruit
athletes that are good golfers but are also great students and have excellent
character,” said Mizzou golf coach Mark Leroux. “We are a program on the rise
and recruit those athletes we believe will take us to the next level.”
“When I took my official visit to Mizzou, I was blown away by the facilities and
coaching staff,” said Fair. “Coach Leroux is a real down-to-earth guy that knows
how to make you feel comfortable and knowing some of my new teammates was a real
plus.” Fair is the son of Christy Long, of Monett, and Rick Fair, of
Rogers, Ark. Fair chose Mizzou over Iowa, Kansas State, Wichita State and
Auburn. He plans to major in mathematics.
