June 26 - St. Joseph, MO - It's down to the Sweet Sixteen at the 2009 Missouri Amateur Championship as play continues on Friday afternoon at St. Joseph Country Club.

Medalist, Jace Long continued his winning ways defeating Dean Merrill, 3&2 on Friday morning.  Long faces Brian Scott of Hannibal, MO in the afternoon.  Scott defeated St. Louisan, Ted Moloney, 2 up to advance out of the round of 32.

Jason Schulte of Mission Hills, KS put a stop to the Todd Obergoenner momentum winning 2&1.  Obergoenner made 17 consecutive pars, but it wasn't good enough to advance against Schulte.  Schulte faces Andy Hogenmiller of Washington, MO.

Caleb Carter of St. Joseph, MO defeated University of Missouri golfer, Chris Johnson on Friday morning.  Carter is one of 3 St. Joseph, MO natives still competing for the championship.  Carter will tee it up against David Eddy of Webb City, MO.

Ryan Marks, Warrensburg, MO  defeated Daniel Crawford of St. Joseph, MO in the round of 32.  Marks earns the opportunity to face reigning Missouri Amateur Champion, Justin Bardgett in the sweet sixteen.  Bardgett defeated close friend, Ben Wood in the round of 32 by a 6&5 margin.

Another past champion, Skip Berkmeyer advanced in impressive fashion, 6&5 over Brevin Giebler.  Berkmeyer will get University of Missouri golfer, Will Harrold of Columbia, MO in the afternoon.

The much anticipated sweet sixteen matchup of Brad Nurski, St. Joseph, MO and Darren Lundgren, St. Louis, MO won't take place.  Neither Nurski or Lundgren were able to advance on Friday morning.  Nurski lost 4&3 to Brian Whittle of Golden City, MO in what has to be considered the biggest upset of this years championship through two matches.  Lundgren played all 18 holes and was 2 under par, making birdies on 17 and 18, losing 1 down to Ryne Kloeppel of Kansas City, MO.

While Nurski won't be carrying the St. Joseph flag over the weekend, two other St. Joseph natives are still fighting hard.  Harry Roberts and Brian Haskell both advanced to the round of sixteen.  Roberts will play Josh Taylor and Haskell will face Don Walsworth of Leawood, KS.
