No. 3 in Golfweek, No. 1 in GolfStat and now winners of three consecutive tournaments this fall. The Illinois Men's Golf program is big time and it started with small, as in Coach Mike Small. It was Small's team in 1988 that last accomplished the feat of winning three consecutive tournaments. And here he is again with a younger group, of equally talented golfers, once again putting the Fighting Illini on the golfing map.
Sophomore Scott Langle was Medalist at the recent D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate and led wire to wire. A first round, 6 under par, 64 has a tendancy to put you in the lead and a second round 67 gave him a secure lead. A lead that he had to defend during the third round as teammate Luke Guthrie and Illinois State's Kyle Bragg were coming on strong. Guthrie matched Langley's first round 64 and Bragg backed up his 67-66 with a 1-over par 71 to close out the tournament in 2nd place. Illlinois claimed three of the top four individual positions with Matt Hoffman claiming a tie for 3rd with teammate Guthrie.
Jordan McLaurin (Missouri State University) finished in a tie for 6th at 212 (+2). Matt Lehl (SIUE) finished at 216 (+6) and tied for 13th with Zach Barlow (Illinois) and former Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association Champion, Ryan Franks (W. Illinois).
Tyler Link (SIUE) tied for 19th at +8 one shot ahead of Chris DeForest (Illinois) who tied for 24th. Jay McBride tied for 30th at +11 for the championship.
