UMSL Tritons Win Great Lakes Regional at Glen Echo CC

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis Men’s golf team
tied Drury University for first place at the Great Lakes Regional #2,
but won the playoff hole to take home the trophy in the 15-team event
hosted by the Tritons at Glen Echo Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
UMSL, which shot a 298 on its first 18 holes yesterday, held a
five-stroke lead over the Panthers entering today, but Drury bettered
the Tritons by five strokes on the final 18 holes to force the tie. UMSL
carded rounds of 298 and 288 for a 586 team score, while Drury shot
rounds of 303 and 283.
Senior Matt Rau paced UMSL with a 143 (70-73) to tie for second place,
finishing one stroke out of first place, while senior Ryan Penfield also
earned a top five finish, placing fourth with a 144 (71-73).
Sophomore Jason Chun tied for 10th place, carding a 149 (78-71), while
junior Chris Dowling shot a 152 (79-73) to tie for 16th place. Senior
Tim Cochran rounded out UMSL’s top five with a 154 (83-71), tying for
21st place.
Drury’s Shawn Vanderwal carded a two-under par on his final round to finish with an even 142 (73-69) to take medalist honors.
UMSL returns to the links for spring competition March 14-15, 2011 at the Drury Past House Invitational in Springfield, Mo.
