May 16 - Normandie Golf Club - Normandie Golf Club is the oldest golf club west of the Mississippi river still in operation in its original location.  Over the years, Normandie Golf Club has seen their share of legendary golfers tee it up and in recent years the area's top players can be found each May competing in the Normandie Amateur Championship.

In it's 23rd year, the Normandie Amateur has been known to challenge the top amateurs in ways they aren't challenged the rest of the year.  The legendary golf club has taken its lumps over the years and as a result doesn't provide the same immaculate conditions seen by the players the rest of the year.  The players expect it and accept it and most just enjoy the opportunity to play one of the area's most well respected golf designs, regardless of the occassional bad break they will get this weekend.

Round one of the Normandie Amateur featured blustery conditions, making the course play as long and difficult as it could.  The result was no sub par rounds posted from a field consisting of players like Skip Berkmeyer, Darren Lundgren, Scott Thomas and Tom Barry.  Ted Maloney, a member at Fox Run Golf Club, and Brad Welch posted the low rounds of the day at 1-over, 72.  Jeff Johnson, who played in the first group of the day on Saturday, was tied by Chad Niezing, who was playing in one of the final groups of the day, at 73.  Four players are tied at 75, including 2-time champion Skip Berkmeyer and Jack Eisenbeis.  Former UMSL golfer Denny Reagan and current UMSL player Matt Rau are four shots back at 76.  John Anderson and Ryan Weinhaus join the group at four shots back to start the final round.
