The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association is proud to announce the 20th anniversary of the region’s most coveted amateur championship will return to Meadowbrook Country Club August 12-14, 2010.
While
this is a 20th anniversary for MAGA conducting the Amateur
Championship, it is also marks a 10th anniversary for Meadowbrook CC
hosting the Amateur. In 2000, Meadowbrook CC hosted the 10th Amateur
Championship. Bob Beckmann, a Meadowbrook member, went on to capture the title with a one-stroke victory over Tom Barry.
Meadowbrook has hosted the Metropolitan Women’s and Senior
Championships as well as numerous USGA Qualifying Rounds over the
years.
Meadowbrook CC President Bill Bender commented
on hosting the 20th Amateur, "Meadowbrook CC is honored to host the
20th Amateur Championship. We know it is the premier amateur event in
St. Louis, and we know our golf course will be up to the test."
Skip Berkmeyer captured the 2009 version of the Amateur at Bellerive Country Club. MAGA’s 8-time Player of the Year was able to hold off one of the strongest fields in Amateur history to have his name etched on the Jim Tom Blair Trophy. Ted Moloney,
2009 Normandie Amateur Champion, finished 2-strokes back of Berkmeyer
for his best finish in the Amateur while holding off 2008 Amateur
Champion Adam Long in third.
