Overland Park Native, Drew Lethem, Leads on Hooters Tour

Elgin, S.C. - September 9, 2011 - After opening the NGA/Hooters Tour’s Woodcreek Classic at The Members Club at Woodcreek and WildeWood with a 67, Drew Lethem, of Overland Park, Kan., fired an 8-under 64 in the second round to carry a two-shot lead into the weekend.

Lethem, a former Georgia Southern University standout, shot a 5-under 31 on the front side and added two more birdies on the backside before making his first bogey of the day on his 14th hole. However, Lethem, a 2009 Southern Conference Champion, rallied with two late birdies to get to 13-under par and two shots ahead of Diego Velasquez (Bogota, Columbia), Kyle Ellis (Senatobia, Miss.) and Jonathan Hodge (Strawberry Plains, Tenn.).

Hodge had matched Lethem for the low round of the day with an 8-under 64 of his own. The former UT-Chattanooga golfer had eight birdies and no bogeys on the 7,002-yard course during Friday’s second round to grab a share of second.

Velasquez, who was ranked No. 1 in the country last year at Oregon State, backed up his 66 in the first round with a second-round 67 to join Hodge in third place. Through two rounds. Velasquez has 12 birdies and one bogey.

Ellis, a former Ole Miss golfer, had two eagles, two birdies and a bogey in the second round to join Hodge and Velasquez at T2 and 11-under par. Of the top three, Ellis is the only golfer with a win on the NGA/Hooters Tour.

Fresh off his win in the Canadian Tour Championship, Stewart Anderson (Alberta, Canada) matched the low round of the day with a 64, carding seven birdies, one eagle and one bogey and moving into a tie for fifth.

Ramon Bescansa (Santiago, Spain), Blake Sattler (New Philadelphia, Ohio), James Bowen (Dawsonville, Ga.) and two-time 2011 winner Jeff Corr (Longwood, Fla.) are also T5 at 10-under par.

Brandon Brown (Shelbyville, Ky.) continued his stellar season with a 6-under 66 in the second round. Brown, who has four wins in 2011, is 9-under par and tied for 10th with Pope Spruill (Livingston, Ala.), Reid Edstrom (Auburn, Ala.) and Ryan Spears (Del City, Okla.).

Jesse Hutchins (Kirkersville, Ohio), Ryan Blaum (Coral Gables, Fla.), Anthony Broussard (Beaumont, Texas), Chris Naegel (Chesterfield, Mo.), Richard Todd (Florence, Ala.), Phillip Mollica (Anderson), Andrew Loupe (Baton Rouge, La.), Andy Winings (Brownsburg, Ind.), Daniel Burns (Mobile, Ala.), Leroux Ferreira (Kingwood, Texas), Hernan Piri Borja (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Adam Long (St. Louis, Mo.) are T14 and 8-under par going into the third round of the $200,000 event.
