After winning both quarterfinal and semfinal matches on Thursday, top-seeded Lynn University and third-seeded Cal State-Monterey Bay will square off Friday morning at 11 a.m. ET for the Division II National Championship.

"This was a great day for our golf team," said head coach Jason Owen.  "Seeing our young sophomore Dylan Jackson come through and beat one of the best players in the nation was awesome. We need just one more "w" and then I will be satisfied man."

It all came down to sophomore Dylan Jackson's last hole against Cyril Bouniol, the defending Division II individual champion.  Bouniol missed his eight foot birdie putt while Jackson two-putted from 10 feet to secure the semifinal victory.

Senior John Jackson won his head-to-head match-up against Tyler Sheppard by 10-strokes which helped push the Otters to a victory that was determined by fewest number of strokes.

Junior D.J. Milligan battled back and forth with Kyle Dickerson with both players recording two double bogies and one birdie which resulted in a tie.

Senior Oskar Nystrom attempted a four-stroke down comeback but ran out of time, falling by one stroke to Trey Sullivan.  Senior Scott Yeakel dropped his match-up by four-strokes to Alex Carpenter.

Earlier Thursday, the Otters downed Newberry College 3-2 in the quarterfinals.  Senior John Jackson lead CSUMB in both contests, finishing with a 4-under 140 in the 36 holes.

Meanwhile, Lynn University had a much easier road to the final.

The Blue & White easily dispatched of Barton in the morning as Ricardo Gouveia and Young won by a combined 19 strokes.  A freshman out of Almancil, Portugal, Gouveia shot a tournament-low 66 from the No. 2 position while Daniel Young posted a 71 from the top spot.

Lynn also got victories at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions with Roberto Francioni carding a personal tournament best 69 and Paul McPhee recording a 71.  Pepito Joia shot a 76 in LU’s lone loss.

The second half of the day proved a little more difficult for the Knights.  Central Missouri matched Lynn shot for shot and held a 3-2 advantage heading into holes 7 through 11.  The turning point came on the eighth hole from Gouveia after he knocked down an eagle.  Hitting from 152 yards out, Gouveia lofted a 9-iron two feet past the cup but incredible backspin gave him an eagle two on the par 4.

“I was in between clubs 8-9 and decided to go with the nine,” added Gouveia.  “When I picked the club, I knew it was the right one.  I aimed a little left of the pin and hit it perfect.  I think it was a big lift for our team because all of the guys were able to hear the cheering from our fans.”

Just after Gouveia’s big shot, McPhee went from being down two to knotting things up before going up by two after 11 holes.  He carried a four-stroke lead into 17 and won by two.

Young was also up big heading into the 17th hole.  Despite paring his last seven holes, the sophomore out of Perth, Scotland, saw his opponent birdie 15 and eagle the par-5 17th hole to pull to within one.  Needing to at least halve the hole, Young stuck his tee shot to within 15-feet and two putted to send Lynn into the national title match.
