Top 5 Pet Peaves while on the course
5 - when players in the group ahead wait until the other guy from their cart hits before he prepares for his shot. play ready golf!!! 4 - when golfers do not know how to position their carts or golf bags around the fairways and greens park between the green and the next tee box so when you are done you are walking towards your next target. 3 - more than 2 practice swings on any shot (drive, chip, putt) - all unnecessary! 2 - players that give unsolicited tips to people they do not know or just met 1 - repair your ball mark and 2 or 3 more on each green. JUST DO IT!!! |

OK, I've seen a lot on golf courses having spent a most of my adult life in the golf business in one form or another.........so I could easily rant here for hours. Here are my top five Pet Peeves:
5.) People that are in such a hurry they have to pass with their golf cart and don't make any attempt to keep their cart on the path (you ever notice just to the side of the cart path how much wear and tear there is?) I just played 18 holes at The Falls and we only passed with our golf carts one time. And when we pass with our carts, we kept them on the damn path. Golf carts are a necessary evil of the game today, but we don't have to do as much damage as we do. 4.) Still on the golf cart topic here - When players drive their golf cart along the edge of a bunker, getting as close as they can to the edge of the fairway. When carts are off the path and at most courses in St. Louis where zoysia is the turf used......the courses ask the players to keep their carts in the fairway. But do you ever notice how around bunkers the turf gets a little stressed in the middle of the summer......that's because a bunch of idiots drive their golf carts right up to the edge of the bunkers.......pay attention where you are driving the damn golf carts! 3.) Golfers who have to play the "back" tees on every course they play......and even Michael Jordan is victim to this. You don't have to play a golf course at 7,000 yards to challenge yourself, especially if you can't break 80 on a good day. So enjoy the golf coure and play the correct set of tees......and I don't want to hear the crap about "I paid for the entire course, so I'm going to see it all".......this person shouldn't be allowed on the golf course in my opinion. One key reason why pace of play sucks at most public golf courses (private clubs too) is because players are playing from the wrong set of tees. Golf courses are built for you to be hitting your approach shots in certain areas and greens are built to accept shots from certain distances.......my point here is if you play the wrong set of tees and are hitting 5-woods into all par 4's.......you aren't playing the golf course as it was designed to be played. 2.) Slow Play - enough said. 1.) Golfers that take the game too damn seriously.......during my days as a Club Manager I had the pleasure of playing rounds with members and guests and was amazed at how quickly they would get upset because of a bad shot. They don't practice, they lack athletic ability and expect to hit it pure every time. When they don't they get upset and start making excuses. I wanted to say so many times, "relax, you just suck and you're not going to enjoy this game if you think you are any better than you actually are....get a lesson.". On the flip side, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with guys that got everything out of their game. (Bob Nolfo / Rogers Robinson) are two guys that would hit the ball 200 yards off the tee, lay up on par 4's sometimes (in perfect position most of the time), chip it 6 feet and make half of them. I've never lost as much money to 10 handicaps as I did to these two guys. -------------------- |
